Read this article if you plan to visit Munduk Bali.
Munduk is one of my favorite places in Bali. I’ve been here several times. The quiet little village up on the mountains of Bali has its own charm. I think it’s one of the most beautiful areas in Bali. It has mountains, twin lakes, rice fields, jungle and waterfalls. And it’s perfect for cooling down and escaping the crowd in Southern Bali.
After several visits and exploring the area with my travel partner, I decided to write this Munduk Bali travel guide.

How to get to Munduk?
The best way to get to Munduk from wherever you are in Bali is to rent a scooter or a car.
If you’re comfortable riding a scooter up and down the mountains, then this is the best and cheapest option.
If you don’t ride a scooter well, then renting a car or arranging for a drop-off and pick-up taxi would be your better option.
Warning!
Online taxi app like Gojek doesn’t work well up here. Make sure you arrange your pick-up taxi in advance.
It might be difficult and expensive to find a car that will take you back to Denpasar or anywhere else far away.
What to do in Munduk Bali?
1. Do a ricefield trekking
There are a few trekking routes that would take you to the rice fields. It will take a few hours, and you’ll see beautiful rice terraces.
Just make sure you get proper shoes and bring your own drinking water.
2. Check out the waterfalls
There are PLENTY of waterfalls in Munduk area. Honestly, I haven’t been to one of them.
I didn’t have hiking shoes when I visited (lame excuses, I know). And I’m not really a fan of waterfalls (spare me, I’m just being honest here).
But if you’re one of those people who loves to see waterfalls, then these are the ones you can check out:
- Red Coral Munduk Waterfall
- Melanting Waterfall
- Labuhan Kebo Waterfalls
- Golden Valley Waterfalls
- Air Terjun Umejero
There are some other ones, but I’m putting this list based on my research from Google Maps reviews. Yes, I read the reviews, so you don’t have to.
3. Explore Munduk with a scooter
There isn’t much traffic around Munduk area, so you’re safe to enjoy the scenery while driving up and down the mountains.
But like I said before, you should be really comfortable with scooter driving because some roads are very steep.
This is by far our favorite activity in Munduk. We stopped a few times just to savor the beautiful mountain and valley views.
4. Visit the water temple
Another thing you can do is to visit Pura Ulun Danu Beratan, a beautiful water temple complex that has a history dating back centuries.
The temple is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of Lake Beratan, and is a significant religious and cultural site for the Balinese people.
I suggest visiting in the early morning if you want to beat the crowd and tourist busses. This is one of the most popular temples in Bali.
5. Book a Tour
If you don’t want to arrange the activities alone (I know sometimes it’s just overwhelming!), you can book a tour here.
There are trekking tours, waterfall tours, tour to Lovina, and many more that you can choose from!
Where to stay in Munduk
If you’re a budget traveler, don’t worry! Munduk offers a variety of accommodation options to cater to budget travelers.
While it may not have as many options as some of the more touristy areas in Bali, there are still several budget-friendly places to stay in and around Munduk.
Here are some recommendations:
This homestay offers affordable rooms in a peaceful setting. It’s a great option for travelers looking for a more authentic and local experience. The rooms are basic but clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
This homestay offers affordable rooms with stunning mountain and valley views. The location is convenient for exploring the nearby waterfalls and trekking routes. They also have a local restaurant with good local food and reasonable prices.
Located on the main road of Munduk Village, this simple guesthouse is a bit outdated but has a swimming pool and an amazing view from the balcony. The breakfast is very simple, though. But the location is good because you can walk to some other restaurants or warungs in the area.
If you’re willing to spend more, here are some nice hotel or villa recommendations:

Where to eat in Munduk
1. Made Oka Warung
If you’re traveling on a budget but still want to eat in a place with an amazing mountain view, then this is your place. The staff is friendly, the food is served in a good portion, and the price is cheap. My husband and I had dinner there, and we pretty much enjoyed it.
2. Munduk Farm House
We had lunch here when we arrived in Munduk. They have their own farm and also cute little cottages to stay. The restaurant is simple but offers a wide variety of food. The food was good, and the salad was fresh. They also sell some imported wine bottles.
3. Kaki Langit Restaurant
Kaki Langit means “sky feet” in Indonesian language, and this restaurant makes you feel like you’re close to the sky. The location is a bit remote, but it’s worth visiting. You’ll see ethnic architecture design around the restaurant, and also a stunning infinity pool.
Tips: check out the glass bridge with a red dragon! See if you’re brave enough to cross the glass bridge 😉

If you like trekking and hiking, then you should spend at least 3 days here. But if you don’t, 1 or 2 days here should be enough. Of course, you can stay longer if you still need the calmness and the serenity.
